Traveling Medicine Show and Empanada Stand is a pop-up sculptural cafe and performance space operating in a fictitious economy, where art and food are exchanged for ideas. Early American medicine shows hawked snake oil and ”Indian medicine” for curing ills and small-town boredom. Today, Traveling Medicine Show is a mythologized tent, a mobile station, a symbol of the American Spring and of the people living on the borders of cities and failing economies worldwide. The work premiers August 2012 in Berlin with a gallery exhibition, curated dinner and public events. It then goes on to join the global discourse of art and thought at dOCUMENTA(13) in Kassel, Germany.
